It may not be Bourbon Street in New Orleans or Ghirardelli Square in San Francisco, but the breezeway between the Southwestern College Student Center and the cafeteria has some jamming sidewalk musicians.
Music major Joshua Mia and his friends congregate with guitars, percussion instruments and tunes on their lips. Philadelphia's 52nd St. has nothing on this musical crew that varies in size from 6-15, depending on who has class.
"Melting stress away is often hard to do when you are trying to finish school, but by playing music and chilling out with my friends it helps," said Kris Reyes, 21, a physical therapy major.
Mia said he has been playing his own music for about eight years and is promoting his band, Miegyver on MySpace. While playing with SWC friends, Mia gains inspiration for his band.
During his off time Mia gets together a small group and they start composing music.
"Music is a way to express feeling without saying so much," said Mia.
"Hanging around with this group of musicians and open minded people is great and gives me time to just relax in between classes," said Tom Belton, undeclared.
