Students looking for a down-to-Earth organization hit play-dirt with SWC's Earth Science Club. It is one of the college's most hands-on clubs where members can really dig into some serious learning.

Earth Science Club members work to feel connected to the Earth. Outings include Borrego Springs and participating in "I Love a Clean San Diego." Members recently returned from a trip to the Salton Sea.

Camping trips to places such as Borrego Springs and participating in "I Love a Clean San Diego," a program designed to educate the community on environmental issues, in Coronado have become ritual activities.

"We try to go places where there is no cell service, that way students can truly enjoy the experiences," said Farquaharson, an adjunct instructor and club co-founder.

Though the focus of the club is physical sciences like geology, geography, astronomy, and oceanography, the theme is enjoyment.

"We want students to get interested in the subject and have fun," said Farquaharson.

Plans are in progress to adopt a park, put together kits in case of a naural disaster and get plastic recycling bins put around campus.

Club President, Ramon Perez, a criminal justice major, encourages students to come see what the club is about.

"We always try to invite students of SWC to come and join the Earth Science Club especially those that are taking geography and geology that need help with their assignments," said Perez.

Club co-founder Carole Ziegler said non-science majors are really enjoying the organization's activities.

"Anyone on campus is welcome, we would love to see more students getting involved," said Ziegler.
