African, Japanese drummers prove impossible to beat

Southwestern College's African Drumming and Dancing Ensembles, directed by Todd Caschetta and Akayaa Atule, invited the San Diego Taiko to join them in their Fall 2007 concert. Red lights bounced off drums like the bachi used to hit them with. With each meeting of drum and bachi, a deep boom resounded through the air.

Impressive exhibit followed by auction

First impression of "Students Art Exhibit & Auction," the new exhibit that showcases a semester of student work at the Southwestern College Art Gallery Patio, is a burst of color, like the beaming sun over the desert. Various photographs, sculptures and paintings are part of this eclectic gathering of visual art at the Southwestern College Art Gallery patio.

Afro-Cuban, Improvisation Jazz ensembles resonate

Too often this community takes for granted the marvelous exhibits, concerts and performing arts at Southwestern College. Sad. What South Bay citizens are missing out on is often marvelous. "Rhythms and Jazz, Music from the Caribbean and United States" was one such performance.

Dancers put best feet forward in fall concert

Jetés sliced through the air at Southwestern College's dance show "Moveable Feasts." Dancers performed an array of pieces that ranged from traditional African dance to Latin Ballroom. Unity through dance seemed to be the theme of the piece."Roots" was choreographed and danced by Swift Skillz, Devonna Gentry, Jarmar Jackson, Jonathan Mendoza and Brenda Saldana.
